Did you know that baby pacifiers grew on trees? Neither did I.
OK, just kidding! 🙂
When children in Scandinavia finish using their pacifiers, it is almost traditional that the pacifier should be hung on the “Pacifier Tree”. This signifies that the child is now (or believes itself to be!) too old to use such baby stuff.
Of course it is a kind of “rite”. Once you have put your pacifier on the tree, you are committed and can’t go back to using it again (thus helping parents and pediatrics keep the children weaned of the pacifier! Quitting the pacifier can be hard!)
Kindergartens often have their own tree or bush where they put pacifiers. This one is in Espergærde south of Elsinore, Denmark.
